Athens Metro Tour in Greece

Many fascinating and historical findings were unearthed when construction of the Athens Metro Station began, and this tour allows you to experience these significant artifacts for yourself.

Excavations while building the Athens Metro Station revealed material from the Neolithic Era up through modern times. Discoveries included a bathhouse (the Amalias shaft was relocated because of this important find), metal working shops, aqueducts, cisterns, ancient roads, city walls, cemeteries and an enigmatic room filled with oil lamps decorated with erotic scenes. These significant artifacts were detached, preserved and stored in secure venues. Many of them are on display at various Athens metro stations.

The tour begins at the Acropolis metro station. Tour the station and view several continuous friezes, carved in low relief, completed in the decoration of the Parthenon. From there, ride the metro to Syntagma Station. Exhibits at this station include ancient gravestones, a 5th century BC aqueduct, a 5th century AD mosaic and a 2,000-year-old beehive. A geological cross-section is on display, with each layer of earth representing a different historical period. See a grave containing a skeleton from the 4th century BC, which lies just a few meters below a 16th century cistern.

Summary:

4 DAYS MINIMUM ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED. This tour offers hotel pick-up and drop offs. Rates are per person and in US Dollars. Please reserve online or call 800-719-6365 for reservations or more information. There is a $3.95 processing fee per order. This is a flat fee regardless of the number of tickets or tours purchased on an order.
There is a service charge per ticket. This charge will be reflected on your summary before you checkout. The total shown includes any and all taxes, fuel surcharges, and service fees. There are no additional charges.

Cancellation Policy: All sales are final. There are no refunds.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.
